密歇根大学100个博士专业GRE要求大变革！

近日，密歇根大学拉克哈姆Rackham研究生院宣布，从2022-2023申请季开始，该校博士专业申请中，申请人不再需要提交GRE成绩。

 

目前，密歇根大学安娜堡Ann Arbor和迪尔伯恩Dearborn两个校区，共有一百多个博士专业由Rackham研究生院管理，2023申请季将全部免去GRE要求。

 

密歇根大学对博士研究生录取中GRE考试的免除议案从2021年9月开始启动，虽然也有部分教师员工对此持反对态度。但是该校Rackham研究生院院长Mike Solomon最后还是决定采取免GRE政策。

 

Mike Solomon表示：“过去十几年中，我们部分专业的录取已经采取无GRE成绩政策，都取得了不错的效果”。

在此之前，这一政策在全校所有博士专业（负责老师）中进行了调查，最后显示有超过90%的人支持免去博士申请中免GRE成绩的入学政策。

 

谈及此次对所有博士专业录取采取免GRE成绩政策，Mike Solomon说明了三点原因：

•GRE考试的费用，让一些优秀的学生放弃选择密歇根大学；

•使用GRE成绩作为博士录取的考虑因素，存在不同种族、性别、家庭经济背景学生之间的不公平性；

•GRE成绩并不能证明其与博士生的研究成果、论文水平等博士教育结果之间的相关性。

 

免去GRE成绩之后，学校希望有更多元的群体以及国际学生能够申请密歇根大学。与此同时，Mike Solomon院长还认为“在无GRE成绩之后，学生的申请资料能以更加中立的方式被审阅。”

 

密歇根大学是一所深受中国留学生喜爱的综合性研究型大学，很多专业在学术排名中常年位居前列，与常春藤院校不分上下。无需提交GRE成绩后，预计申请密歇根大学博士专业的中国留学生人数会呈现较大增长。

 

近些年来，随着美国社会对大学公平性的呼声不断增大，再加上这两年疫情的影响，要求取消GRE、GMAT等考试成绩作为入学申请条件的诉求不断高涨。除了密歇根大学外，还有不少学校更新了对申请者GRE的提交要求。

今年Wustl的工程学院虽然依旧采用GRE可选择提交政策，但是官网还明确表示了：推荐提交GRE成绩。选择提交成绩的同学，GRE成绩也将成为招生官考量的因素。

 

康奈尔大学

康奈尔商学院下的管理学硕士，2022Fall申请同样不要求GRE成绩，但是项目也明确提出，缺少标化成绩，招生办会通过其他申请材料来评估你的学术能力。
